Aging Eyes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Left untreated, diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in the US. Having diabetes puts you at a higher risk for other eye diseases like glaucoma and at higher risk of developing cataracts. The eyes are often the first to show signs of disease. This explains another reason why eye exams are important in catching signs early on.  During an eye exam, doctors often see signs of other diseases and conditions, including high blood pressure and diabetes. Quite often, an eye doctor will spot these signs even before your primary doctor does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cataracts are more prevalent in our over 60 patients. Proteins in the eye break down and cause cataract buildup on the lens of the eye. This is a natural part of aging, but left untreated, a cataract can eventually lead to blindness when the buildup becomes severe.
